Jimenez Sainz Lab
DNA Repair Proteins and their Genetic Variants

Welcome to the Jimenez Sainz Lab! We are a research laboratory located at the Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston. We study DNA repair proteins and the functional and cellular localization alterations of their genetic variants, with a focus on understanding the underlying mechanisms that lead to various diseases, including cancer. Our lab is part of the Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Department and it is located at the Hollings Cancer Center Building.

Our latest publication:

BRCA2 BRC missense variants disrupt RAD51-dependent DNA repair

We recently conducted research on the impact of BRCA2 missense variants within the BRC repeats domain on RAD51 binding, sensitivity to platinum drugs and PARP inhibitors and genome instability. Our findings suggest that certain variants are associated with an increased risk of developing specific types of cancer.
