Rotation PhD Student

Medical University of South Carolina

Yamini is a PhD rotation student in the Jimenez Sainz Lab. She is originally from Bangalore, India and moved to Maryland in 2018. She graduated from University of Maryland, Baltimore County with a bachelor’s degree in bioinformatics and computational biology. During her undergraduate studies, she researched the different immune genes in Drosophila melanogaster (fruit flies) and their effects on aging and immune responses. Yamini is currently interested in the biochemistry aspects of cancer research and is hoping to pursue that for her PhD.

Outside of school, Yamini loves engaging in cultural events, mainly with the DMV area and is starting to engage with the community in Charleston. In her free time, she loves to practice dance, which she has trained in for 13 years, as well as read and try out new hobbies.
