Maxwell Damoah

Maxwell is a Ghanaian clinical pharmacist who joined the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) in August 2024 to pursue a PhD in Biomedical Science, following three years of extensive experience in clinical pharmacy practice. With a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from KNUST, Ghana, Maxwell has developed a strong foundation in pharmacology, pharmaceutical research, and translational medicine, contributing significantly to medication optimization, pharmacokinetics, and pharmacodynamics in non-communicable diseases. His tenure as a clinical pharmacist at Ejisu Government Hospital provided him with invaluable hands-on experience in multidisciplinary patient care, drug therapy management, pharmacovigilance, and clinical mentorship, ensuring high-quality healthcare delivery.

 

Beyond his clinical practice, he has been actively engaged in scientific research, leading and collaborating on projects in pharmacology, drug discovery, experimental therapeutics, and precision medicine. His research has explored the impact of sildenafil on endometrial thickness in IVF patients, the role of telepharmacy in hypertension management, and the availability of essential medicines for non-communicable diseases in Ghana. He is particularly passionate about translational cancer research, with a focus on chemotherapeutic optimization, pharmacogenomics, and targeted drug delivery systems, aiming to bridge the gap between benchside discoveries and bedside applications.

 

In addition to his research and clinical responsibilities, he is deeply committed to community health initiatives, actively participating in HIV, hepatitis B, and cancer awareness programs, as well as COVID-19 education and relief efforts for underserved populations. He has also served as a mentor and preceptor for pharmacy students, fostering the next generation of healthcare professionals through structured clinical education.

 

With a relentless pursuit of scientific innovation and patient-centered care, he aspires to contribute meaningfully to global healthcare advancements by integrating cutting-edge biomedical research with clinical applications to improve cancer treatment outcomes and precision medicine strategies precision medicine strategies.
